sail around skye
Ken and Anne, who will be your Captain and crew, owners of Duisdale and Toravaig House Hotels on Skye, offer a unique sailing experience on their new for 2013 luxury yacht ‘Solus a Chuain ’ a 50 Jeanneau Sun Odyssey. This beautiful yacht is the third yacht they have used for the daily sailing activities offered exclusively to guests of their two hotels. The activity started in 2005 with a 36’ Jeanneau called Solus and due to increasing demand a larger vessel Solus na Mara (42’) was bought in 2007. Solus a Chuain (50’) is a great sea boat and handles well in the seas off the Isle of Skye and the west coast.
They have a wedding licence for weddings on board the yacht. Many weddings have taken place in private on Solus na Mara and their new yacht Solus a Chuain and they are already busy with bookings for the coming year.
hire a luxury yacht & take a day trip
A typical sailing day around Skye starts at 10.30am from Armadale pier with a safety briefing and then a short sea taxi run out to join Solus a Chuain at her mooring. After a brief look around the boat and equipment, it is time to slip the mooring and head out to sea with the sails unfurled as quickly as possible. The whole focus is around the partnership between the sails and the wind. The joy that specific partnership can deliver is palpable. There is nothing like being at one with the elements.
A beautiful, freshly prepared lunch is provided by the hotel kitchen and is served buffet style on the deck together with a glass of fine wine or champagne. Every effort is made to enable lunch to be enjoyed in a calm environment such as a sheltered cove or bay encountered along the way. Expected time of return to the hotel is in the region of 4.30pm although this can vary a little. Maximum number of hotel guests for sailing is ten at a time.
Daily Sailing Trips costs £145 per person.
Small Weddings on board the yacht are £1,995 for up to 10 people.
Exclusive Day Charters can be arranged and costs from £ 1,499 per day.
Warm clothes and soft soled non-marking shoes are required for sailing. Please ask at reception if you would like any advice or assistance with choice of clothing or footwear where an alternative may be suggested or offered. Sailing around Skye depends on the weather and Ken’s decision will stand in the event of a decision being made on the morning of departure. He is a qualified Yachtmaster and Master Mariner with great respect for the seas.
